Symptom: an OpenAI request returns a rate-limit or quota error.

Likely causes

  • Request or token-per-minute limits were reached.
  • The API project has no available balance or budget.

Fix it in this order

  1. Read the exact error message from OpenAI.
  2. Check your rate limits under Settings > Organization > Limits and your credit balance under Billing.
  3. Wait for the stated retry period before trying again.
  4. Reduce content length or how often you summarize.

Keep your existing notes

A failed request does not remove local history. Your saved summaries stay in the browser until you clear them or uninstall the extension.
