OpenAI-compatible providers
Connect any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, such as OpenRouter, with your own base URL, model, and key.
Beyond the built-in providers, Reduz can talk to any AI service that exposes an OpenAI-compatible Chat Completions API, including aggregators such as OpenRouter and self-hosted gateways. You supply the base URL, the model name, and an API key.
Add an OpenAI-compatible provider
Section titled “Add an OpenAI-compatible provider”- Open Settings in the Reduz extension and scroll to the provider list.
- Add an OpenAI-compatible provider. Enter:
- Base URL: the API root that ends in
/v1, for examplehttps://openrouter.ai/api/v1. Reduz calls<base URL>/chat/completions. - Model: the exact model id the provider expects, for example
nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b:freeon OpenRouter. - API key: the key issued by that provider.
- Name: optional. Leave it blank and Reduz suggests one from the host.
- Base URL: the API root that ends in
- Click Test. Reduz asks Chrome for temporary access to that host the first time. Approve it, and Reduz sends one small request to confirm the key, base URL, and model all work.
- Select it and summarize. Once the test passes, choose the provider in the picker and summarize as usual. Results are saved locally like any other provider.
You can add several OpenAI-compatible providers and switch between them at any time. Use the radio control to mark which one is active when more than one is configured.
OpenRouter example
Section titled “OpenRouter example”OpenRouter is a common choice because it fronts many models behind one key.
- Base URL:
https://openrouter.ai/api/v1 - Model: copy an exact id from the OpenRouter model list, including any
:freesuffix. - Key: create one at
openrouter.ai/keys.
Base URL rules
Section titled “Base URL rules”- The URL must start with
http://orhttps://. - Point it at the API root, not a single endpoint. Reduz appends
/chat/completions. - Reduz trims trailing slashes for you.
